Solving the Problem
There are children across America every year who suffer heat strokes and some that have even died from them. There is a need here, in order to help prevent any more children from being harmed.
There are many tricks you can find online about how you can remember to take your child out of their car seats. Some include leaving your bag near the car seat so that you automatically remember to grab it or I have even seen one that involved placing a shoe in the back-seat floor so that you remember. But in this age where most people have smart phone, tablets and cars that can speak to you, I believe it is time for a more advanced way of reminding you. I have a created an option for a wide variety of people. With proper use this should be able to reduce the amount of heat strokes children suffer when left in the car.
1. Smart Car Seat: A car seat with a pressure plate at its base that is able to tell if there is a child strapped into the car seat. The car seat has Bluetooth capabilities that allow it to connect to your phone via an application. With Bluetooth capabilities, it will be able to tell when you get too far away from your car while there is a child still strapped to his/her car seat. Once the car seat senses the distance it will make a loud noise that can only be stopped by returning to the car. It will also include features that will insure that the car seat is properly installed and the child is properly secured.
The car seat and pressure plates for other car seat are charged via cigarette lighters and carry a good charge for a couple day. It will notify you on the application when the battery is low and on the key fob it will light up in a different color to indicate low battery.
I think having the two options is important because just creating and selling a "smart" car seat can be costly for people. Some new parents get previously used items so with the add on kit they can turn any car seat into one that has the capabilities of the "smart" car seat. This product would be found in children store, department stores, and really anywhere were children items are sold.

- For those of you are the type that forgets your phone in the car there will be a way to make sure that the car seat can still call for help if you happen to forget your child in the car. There will be a temperature monitor on the car seat that will be able to monitor when the temperature becomes too hot and there is a child strapped to the car seats. It will first notify you via phone to make sure you are aware of the temperature changes, from there if the issue is not resolved within a set period of time it will notify the proper authorities in the area via internal cellular capabilities.
- For those who may not have smart phones, there will be the option of a key fob. The key fob will work the same way as would your phone as far as notifying you when you are too far from the car with a child in the seat. There will also be an option to buy multiple fobs for multiple people use.

ReplyDeleteWhoa, you're really creative. I like the idea of the Smart Cart Seat, I wonder if that's a thing? If not, it should be. Aside from it reminding you of your child when you get too far away, I think it could also work as a way for you to play music just for your child or a movie or even communicate so you're not yelling from the front seat of the car. I know you say it may be costly but you'd be surprise how much people will spend for "smart" accessories nowadays.

ReplyDeleteThese are incredible ideas! Exactly the type of thing that is relevant to the opportunity and technologically advance for our society. We are so attached to our phones that even when we're busy we remember to bring them with us. It's a great idea to have the car seat sensor bluetooth capable with the app. I think that you could still add on the bracelet or necklace (like the Life Alert ones) in case the child is in a car that is not their usual one. Also, some children are unfortunately not kept in car seats until they're six, so maybe pressure should be put on car companies to add the built-in sensor seats as a standard option, just like they do with air bags.
